CENTRAL PLAINS CENTER (CPC) has limited Pandemic Emergency Assistance Funds available for needy families that have been affected by the Pandemic.  To qualify a family must have one or more dependent children under the age of 18, and either an adult family member or dependent child has a clinical diagnosis of a mental health condition, intellectual or developmental disability, or substance use disorder.  Call CPC at 806-291-4470, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm to apply or for more information.  

Plainview AHEAD will host its 41 st annual Plainview Juneteenth Celebration on Friday. There will be a community church service at Emmanuel Church of God at 7 p.m. at 1801 Walter Griffith Street. The next day, there will be a celebration at Givens Park with music, food and games. These events are open to the community.  

The Unger Memorial Library continues to host weekly entertainment for people of all ages. On Wednesday, the library will host Preschool Story Time & Crafts at 10:30 a.m. (and will continue to do so every Wednesday until July 13 at the same time).   

The Rock’N Buds & Gracie’s Grill Summer Bash is set for June 24 at Kidsville, 3400 W. 4 th St. The event will include vendors, musical entertainment and lots of food from 4-10 p.m. Entry is free.   

Downtown Businesses will host the Beach Bash On Broadway on June 24. Activities will begin at 5 p.m. There will be a wine tasting, food trucks and downtown merchants will be open until 7 p.m. The event will cap with musical entertainment from 8-10 p.m.   

The Plainview Chamber of Commerce is collecting donations for its July 2 nd fireworks show.   

The Red, White and Moo Freedom Parade & Milk Fest is set for July 2. Activities that morning will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade downtown. The route will begin at 11 th and Ash and head south to Broadway Park (SE 1 st and Ash). Parade day celebrations will continue on the Courthouse lawn after the parade. The new owner of a building at 2 nd and Ash Streets will host a free meal on Wednesdays from 5:30-7 p.m. It’s open to the public. Alonzo Ramirez said he’s hosting the meal and plans to host more throughout the summer simply because he hopes to feed the hungry.   

The Fair Theater’s Summer Movie Days is set for July. Every Wednesday throughout the month, the Fair will host a movie at 2 p.m. The schedule is as follows: The Little Mermaid on July 6; Moana on July 13; Free Willy on July 20; Finding Nemo on July 27. The theater will team up with the Unger Memorial Library to present 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea on July 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets for each show are $2 for adults, $1 for children. Kids 2 and under get in free. Concessions are available, including a Snack Pack, which includes a small bag of popcorn and a Capri Sun. The cost of the snack pack is $1.   

The Plainview Aquatics Center is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 2-6 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is $3 for YMCA members who are 11 years old or younger and $5 for YMCA members 12 or older. Admission for the general public is $5 for those 11 years and younger and $7 for those 12 and older. Infants get in free. Cabana rentals will also be available throughout the season. The cost to rent is $10 for two-and-a-half hours. Pavilion parties during normal hours is $125 for two hours. Private rentals are also available. The Plains Art Association’s 60 th Annual Juried Spring Celebration of Art is currently on display at the Abraham Art Gallery on the WBU campus. The exhibit will conclude with a special awards presentation and reception on June 26 from 1-3 p.m. at the gallery. Those interested in viewing the included artwork can visit the exhibition from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. Early bird tickets sales for the 77 th Plainview Community Concerts season are underway. Season membership prices start out at $55 for individuals, $110 for families, $65 for single-parent families and $10 for students. There are three community gardens in Plainview with multiple sections for local gardeners. The National Ranching Heritage Center will host Trolley Tours through October. The tours will start at 10 a.m. every Thursday through October. Tickets to ride are $5 and can be purchased at Cogdell’s General Store inside the main gallery of the center. These tours are a perk made possible by The CH Foundation.   

Single ticket sales for the Broadway at The Buddy Holly Hall Series are now on sale. The series concludes with “Anastasia” on June 20-21. Broadway at the Buddy Holly Hall Series coordinators recently announced a change to the 2022-23 lineup. The season will include productions of Hamilton, Fiddler On The Roof, Dear Evan Hansen and Tootsie, as previously announced. But it will no longer include the production of Hairspray. The season will now include productions of Legally Blonde – The Musical, The Simon & Garfunkel Story and Cirque Dreams Holidaze. American Cultural Exchange Service is looking for host families for students from Japan, Thailand, China, Asia, South America and Europe for the 2022-2023 school year. The Plainview Dance Club now meets on the first, second and fourth Thursday of the month at the Elks Lodge, 908 N. I-27 off the service road. The groups meets from 6:30-9 p.m. There is live entertainment each night. No smoking is allowed and there are no snacks. Admission is $5 for members, $7 for non-members and $10 for one-year memberships.   

American Cultural Exchange Services is looking for volunteer families to host a foreign exchange student for the 2022-2023 school year. Students will come from Japan, Korea, Asia, South American and Europe. American Cultural Exchange Services is a non-profit educational organization designated by the U.S. Department of State. The students will experience life in America and will get a feel for what it’s like being a part of an American family and an American High School. Students are not required to have their own room and will share in doing chores and helping around the house as needed. They are medically covered and will have their own spending money for personal needs. Married couples, single adults, widowed or divorced individuals can host a student. Plans are underway to create a Texas Tech Military & Veterans Tribute Walk at Memorial Circle on the Lubbock campus. There will also be a plaque honoring Tech Purple Heart recipients or people wounded or killed in action.
